Yesterday the Pirates invaded Tampa bay, as they do every year about this time. The official website of the event is here; for further information click here. This event, which is Tampa's equivalent to Mardi Gras, is always a fun day for those who enjoy photographing events. All my photographs were processed in Lightroom. Run for New Beginnings, 2011
Yesterday was the first Run for New Beginnings, which benefited the runaway and youth crisis shelter, New Beginnings that is located in Brooksville, FL and is there for the youth of Hernando, Citrus and Sumter counties.
Youth and Family Alternatives, Inc., which operates the shelter and some remarkable community volunteers (who worked tirelessly for many months) worked together to make this race possible. The race drew some 350+ runners and many more spectators. It was a great event and a great time for all who were there.

Dragon Boat Races, Tampa, Florida
Tampa was host to the the International Dragon Boat Racing Championship this past weekend. This IDBF event was impressive and photogenic, although I felt sorry for those athletes who were less acclimated to our unusually hot and humid weather. I was able to take a few photographs, which you may see by clicking here or on the photgraph above. If have difficulties with these links, try this one. Enjoy! Nathan

New Smyrna Beach, Surfers
The following photographs were taken during a drive on the beach in Volusia County, Florida's New Smyrna Beach. Unlike the tranquil waves of the West coast of Florida, for surfers it is the East coast of Florida that provides them (barely) waves intense enough for surfing. Click here or on the photograph above for a larger version or click here for a slide show of the same. Enjoy! Nathan
Rap River Run 2011
Yesterday, Youth and Family Alternatives (YFA) held their annual Rap River Run event. If you are a runner in the Tampa Bay area, especially in the New Port Richey area, you are well acquainted with this excellent, annual sporting event. This event is run primarily by local volunteers and sponsors of the Rap House, Pasco County's only youth runaway and crisis shelter. The run is not only an excellent race along the Pithlachascotee River, but is a time to celebrate both the good services the RAP house provides for the youth and their families of this area and the amazing volunteers and sponsors who come together to make such an event happen. The Rap River Run is a great race, for a great cause with plenty of excellent food and refreshments. If you did not participate this year, plan on 2012: you will have a great time and you will play an important part to ensure that runaway and homeless youth have a safe place in Pasco County.

Norfolk Southern Railway Depot, Cleveland, TN
The photograph above is of the, old Southern Railway Depot in Clevland, TN (Tennessee). My father retired from there may years ago and I have many interesting memories of going to work with him and wathcing those massive, powerful locomotives run through my home town. The building which is in ill repair, is being restored and will one day soon remind us all of days gone by when it served the area as a depot for passenger trains (I remember those days!). In addition to the depot, I have included a photograph of a view of, what was formarly, First Baptis Church of Cleveland from the depot (the church has since moved from the downtown location for another). Enjoy! Nathan
