Gasparilla Parade 2012

Yesterday the Pirates invaded Tampa bay, as they do every year about this time.  The official website of the event is here; for further information click here.  This event, which is Tampa's equivalent to Mardi Gras, is always a fun day for those who enjoy photographing events.  All my photographs were processed in Lightroom. "No Lifeguard on Duty"

I've been busy updating my gallery (see the link to the left, under "Navigation").  This is a photograph from last weekend.  Enjoy! Nathan

Colorless Disney

.
I spent some time at Disney World during the Food and Wine festival this year. I took my camera, of course, but only brought my 50mm with me in the park.
.
In post processing, I decided to go black and white to focus on the texture and structure that is so easily overlooked behind the all the rich color of Disney World.
.
All processing was completed in Adobe Lightroom and Silver Effects Pro 2.

Filthy Fun Run

.
On November 19, 2011, I took my camera to the first annual "Filthy Fun Run" in Pasco County Florida.  The race benefited the Pasco Pediatric Foundation, whose Board members, along with their volunteers, were responsible for the success of the event.  The race was well organized, fun for the participants and very filthy, dirty!  I believe you can see from my photographs that the particpants of the race were both challenged and had a lot of fun.   If you want to help a worthy cause, plan to attend the race next year-- bring your friends and count on having a crazy, fun time.  This event is highly recommended.

Run for New Beginnings, 2011

Yesterday was the first Run for New Beginnings, which benefited the runaway and youth crisis shelter, New Beginnings that is located in Brooksville, FL and is there for the youth of Hernando, Citrus and Sumter counties.

Youth and Family Alternatives, Inc., which operates the shelter and some remarkable community volunteers (who worked tirelessly for many months) worked together to make this race possible.  The race drew some 350+ runners and many more spectators.  It was a great event and a great time for all who were there.

Tampa Zoo, Clouded Leopard Cubs

Click on the above photograph or here to see a few of the new clouded leopard cubs at the Tampa Zoo.  As you can imagine, they were very entertaining and fun to photograph (click here for a local news article on the cubs)  If you are unable to view the photographs due to your browser settings, try this link. John Chestnut Park, Pinellas County, Florida

John Chestnut Park is one of the best parks in the Tampa Bay area and my favorites, period.  If you are from this area and love parks, you must check this one out.
I spent a couple of hours here this weekend.  There were deer out, which I believe, is unusual for mid-day (they are more commen in the early morning).  It was fun stalking them for a few minutes before they returned to their hiding places.  I also have a photograph of a baby aligator that was along the shore of Lake Tarpon, which borders the park.  It was a delightful afternoon and, as usual, did not disappoint the photography hobbyist.  Click on the image above or here for a view of a few of my photographs.  If your browswer does not allow, then click here to see the images.  Enjoy! Cotee Man (coteeman) Triathlon 2011, New Port Richey, Florida

I enjoyed taking photographs of the Coteeman Triathlon this morning.  Originating from New Port Richey's Recreation Center, the race takes place throughout the heart of the city; I heard many of the participants compliment the race coordinators on how well organized the event was.   All 170+, who participated in the race are exceptional athletes in my book.  Click on the image above or here to see more of my photographs of the event.

Dragon Boat Races, Tampa, Florida

Tampa was host to the the International Dragon Boat Racing Championship this past weekend.  This IDBF event was impressive and photogenic, although I felt sorry for those athletes who were less acclimated to our unusually hot and humid weather.  I was able to take a few photographs, which you may see by clicking here or on the photgraph above.  If have difficulties with these links, try this one. St. Augustine, Florida

St. Augustine, the "oldest continuously occupied European established city" in the USA, is a photographer's delight. The city is full of history, facinating architechture and is overall quite charming.  Several of my photographs were taken at Flagler College, which has as its main building, Henry Flagler's famous, Ponce de León Hotel.
A photographic journey to this city is highly recommended--although, you will find greater enjoyment during cooler times of the year.

New Smyrna Beach, Surfers

The following photographs were taken during a drive on the beach in Volusia County, Florida's New Smyrna Beach. Unlike the tranquil waves of the West coast of Florida, for surfers it is the East coast of Florida that provides them (barely) waves intense enough for surfing.  Click here or on the photograph above for a larger version or click here for a slide show of the same.  Enjoy! Rap River Run 2011

Yesterday, Youth and Family Alternatives (YFA) held their annual Rap River Run event.  If you are a runner in the Tampa Bay area, especially in the New Port Richey area, you are well acquainted with this excellent, annual sporting event. This event is run primarily by local volunteers and sponsors of the Rap House, Pasco County's only youth runaway and crisis shelter.  The run is not only an excellent race along the Pithlachascotee River, but is a time to celebrate both the good services the RAP house provides for the youth and their families of this area and the amazing volunteers and sponsors who come together to make such an event happen.  The Rap River Run is a great race, for a great cause with plenty of excellent food and refreshments. If you did not participate this year, plan on 2012: you will have a great time and you will play an important part to ensure that runaway and homeless youth have a safe place in Pasco County.

Low Tide

.
.
I still am amazed at the amount of detail that is in a RAW image.  If you click on the above image it will take you to the "before and after" of this image, which was taken in Brasher Park, Port Richey, FL,  in December of 2008; I went back and worked on it today (Lightroom, Photoshop CS5) and the contrast is amazing.
.
The process of transformation is bliss.
.
You would not be aware (unless, perhaps a local) that the image on the horizon is not a boat but a stilt house that is build in the Gulf of Mexico.  I wish it was more clear in this photograph, but the detail is just not available.

Norfolk Southern Railway Depot, Cleveland, TN

The photograph above is of the, old Southern Railway Depot in Clevland, TN (Tennessee).  My father retired from there may years ago and I have many interesting memories of going to work with him and wathcing those massive, powerful locomotives run through my home town.  The building which is in ill repair, is being restored and will one day soon remind us all of days gone by when it served the area as a depot for passenger trains (I remember those days!).  In addition to the depot, I have included a photograph of a view of, what was formarly, First Baptis Church of Cleveland from the depot  (the church has since moved from the downtown location for another).  Enjoy! Nathan

Cleveland, Tennessee, Christmas 2010

I spent time last weekend with family in Cleveland, TN.  The photographs shared today will include one of the Craigmile Hall, St. Luke's Episcopal Church and what was formerly, First Baptist Church of Cleveland, TN. Cleveland is my hometown and I greatly enjoy seeing my old hometown through the lens of my camera.  Click on the photograph above or click here to see a few more images of this great town.  If you are unable to see the photographs with the links mentioned already, click here.
